Frequently Asked Questions
What are bully sticks?
Bully Sticks are an all-natural, longer lasting chew safe for most dogs. They are made from 100% steer or bull pizzle, also known as penis. They are bone and rawhide free. Since bully sticks are an all-natural, hand-made product, the shapes and sizes will vary with every stick.
How are bully sticks made?
While most bully sticks are made with bleaches or chemicals to reduce odor & preserve the sticks to sit on shelves, then stretched out and oven baked, Jack's Premium uses a different approach that makes our bully sticks more nutritional, flavorful, and longer lasting. Jack's Premium bully sticks are slow smoked and dehydrated without any bleach, preservatives, or liquid smoke.
Are bully sticks safe for my dog?
Bully sticks are easily digestible meaning they break down easily in your dog’s stomach, unlike rawhides or some bones. Bully sticks don’t splinter like other treats, so you don’t have to worry about broken off pieces causing any internal injuries. In addition to their high digestibility, they are high in protein coming from beef muscle. Beef is a complete source of amino acids, which supports your dog’s muscles, brain, skin, and coat. If your dog has any allergy or sensitivity, bully sticks are a great chew option, as they are free from artificial chemicals, additives, and preservatives.
How often should I give my dog a bully stick?
This is totally dependent on your dog, but most dogs should consume 2-3 sticks/week depending on the size of the bully stick and size of your dog. Any treat should only take up about 10% of your dog's daily caloric intake. Bully sticks contain about 15 kcal/inch for a thin stick.
