Fastest Dachshund: Beenie Von Weenie

Beenie Von Weenie crowned fastest wiener dog in the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals

Beenie Von Weenie is the fastest wiener dog in the West! This dachshund was one of dozens of dogs to compete in the 26th Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at the Los Alamitos Race Course in California this past Saturday.

These short legged, long bodied pups competed in a series of 50 yard trials with a championship to determine the winning wiener.

The proceeds from this event support the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. Wienerschnitzel hosts the Wiener Nationals across the United States annually to help raise money for shelters and animal care centers. What better way to do this than watch weenies race!

Can dachshunds run fast?

While Dachshunds are short-legged, long-bodied dogs that love digging in the mud, you might think they can’t run. But surprisingly, Dachshunds are one of the toughest competitors on the racetracks because of their speed (now we aren’t comparing them to greyhounds).

Dachshunds were initially bred to help their owners in hunting. This means these dogs can chase their prey for a very long time, but the question is: how fast do Dachshunds run? According to an estimation, Dachshunds can run reasonably fast at a top speed of 15-20 mph.

This figure won’t be very impressive if you know the top speeds of other dog breeds, but considering their stature this speed is relatively fast.

Congratulations to Beenie von Weenie!
